Took a class at the Orlando Circus School and finally nailed my splits across the hoop! Yay!

It is one of those days.
I am feeling so frustrated with my inability to nail some if these moves on the aerial hoop. I worked at it for nearly two hours already today until I finally had to give up. It is just not happening today.

Have you ever done something and while you’re doing it you think you look terribly awkward and clunky but in fact it’s perfect? This is the first time I’ve seen myself do this particular split on the hoop. Before this I always assumed that I was very far from getting a good split. But it looks like my stretching regimen is paying off! I can’t believe how good this looks!

Decided to post a quick vid of me on the aerial hoop. I’m just freestyling a bit here. I am hoping to work on my transitions and control while dancing. Sometimes taking a video while practicing can really help one’s progress. It lets you see where you need improvement and also is a great tool to use to go back and compare later on as your skills improve.

About a year ago I took a workshop with Natasha Wang and she demonstrated a move from a true grip handspring in which you weave your foot between your arms and split out.
Since that workshop I have been so consumed with getting the Awakenings Aerials program off the ground that I haven’t spent much time on the pole. I dare say, I am probably worse on the pole now than I have been for years. :(

Recently, partly because of this blog, I have decided to work on my pole skills once more and tackle this particular combo. I started working on it three days ago and practiced it again last night. This vid is Natasha demonstrating the move and my sad attempts last night. :P

P.S. Watching this video, I can see I should try to place my top hand higher when I spring up and also pike both legs over for better balance and stability.
